This article explains how to use the Backtrack feature on Bumble to return to someone you just swiped left on. This feature works on the Bumble app for iOS or Android. It’s not possible on the web version.

What to Know

  • In the Bumble app, go to the Swipe tab. Swipe left to pass on a profile.Immediately shake your mobile device back and forth.Tap and hold the yellow button next to Swipe to Backtrack. Swipe right to retreive the profile you passed on.

How to Go Back to a Bumble Profile You Just Passed On

You can instantly go back on Bumble to a profile you just swiped left on by using a simple trick. Bumble has a Backtrack feature built into its mobile apps that is triggered by your mobile device’s motion sensors. The fact that it’s triggered by movement is what makes it so easy to use.

You can test this Backtrack feature by swiping left to pass on anyone. Just follow these steps.

  • On the Bumble app for iOS or Android, navigate to the Swipe tab in the middle of the menu at the bottom.
  • Swipe left to pass on any profile.
  • Now immediately start shaking your device back and forth.
  • It’s very important to do this immediately. If you don’t shake your device soon enough after swiping left on a profile, Bumble will force you to move on by automatically showing you the next profile.
  • If your device’s motion sensor is working properly, it should trigger a Backtrack screen on Bumble to appear.
  • Tap and hold the yellow button on Swipe to Backtrack then swipe right across the screen to confirm that you want to swipe to Backtrack.
  • The profile you just swiped left to pass on will appear again so you have the option to swipe right to like it (or left to pass again).

You Only Get Three Backtracks Every Three Hours

Make sure you use your Backtracks wisely, because you don’t get an unlimited number of them. You can only perform three Backtracks over a three-hour period.

Why Bumble’s Back Features Is so Helpful

Swiping through profiles on the Bumble app can be a lot of fun, but it can also get very repetitive. It’s very easy to accidentally swipe left to pass on someone too fast before really getting a good look at their profile.

It can also take some time to get used to knowing which way to swipe. When you’re new to the app, you might mistakenly swipe left thinking that by doing so you’re liking them—only to realize afterward that you passed on them.

Almost everyone knows what it’s like to zone out in front of a screen and start browsing on autopilot. When your finger automatically swipes left before you have time to think, the Backtrack feature allows you to get a better look at a profile so you can reconsider your swipe choice.

Can You Backtrack on Likes?

Sorry, Bumble doesn’t allow you to Backtrack on profiles you swiped right on to like them. If you accidentally swiped right too quickly on a profile, you can’t take that like back to look at their profile again and redo your swipe.
