Being able to stream media content from another country is one of the benefits of a VPN. The only problem you may face is how to get a VPN working on a particular device. This is particularly true if you are watching content on your Chromecast with Google TV. Luckily, there is a way to set up VPN on Google TV, and we show you how to do so below.

Overview about ExpressVPN

For this tutorial, we are using ExpressVPN, since it’s one of the most reputed and trusted VPN service providers. It also comes with an Android app in the Google Play store that you can easily install to your Google TV. ExpressVPN provides a fast VPN server network with over 3,000 VPN servers across 160 locations.

The VPN offers best-in-class security encryption with unlimited bandwidth. It supports around 17 languages and has an easy-to-use interface. The subscription plan starts at $12.95/month. However, you can opt for the 12-month subscription that would cost $8.32/month or a 6-month that would cost $9.99/month.

For a limited time only, get an extra 3 months when you sign up with ExpressVPN for only $6.67/mo. Get this special VPN deal.

If ExpressVPN cannot be downloaded on your Google TV

If ExpressVPN cannot be installed on your Google TV, then you can easily sideload the app. For that, you need to head over to the ExpressVPN setup page. Here you need to enter your login credentials and sign in. A verification code will be sent to your verified email ID. Enter it and hit the Download APK button.

Later, on your Google TV, install a File Manager app and open it. Transfer the ExpressVPN app APK from your computer to your Chromecast with Google TV. Locate the ExpressVPN APK file in your Google TV and install it just like you would sideload any other APK.

Install ExpressVPN app on Google TV

In this section, we give you the steps to install any VPN – ExpressVPN in our case – on your Google TV with Chromecast.

First, you need to open Google Play Store on your Google TV. From there, either go to the Apps section or search directly for ExpressVPN by clicking the “Search for apps” button.

In the search bar, you need to enter “expressvpn” and hit the search or magnifying glass icon.

You will be redirected to the ExpressVPN app description page. Here, you need to press the Install button.

Once the installation is done, tap on Open.

Activating the ExpressVPN application

After opening the app on your Google TV, you need to sign in or, alternatively, try a seven-day free trial of the app. This would help you understand if this VPN app is a good choice for you.

Simply enter the email ID and password for your ExpressVPN account and hit the “Sign in” button. The app will get activated, and you are ready to go.

Select the OK button to configure the Express VPN app on your Google TV.

A “Connection request” pop-up will appear. Press the OK button.

Connect to a server location using VPN

Now that everything is set, you can go ahead and connect to a server location. Simply click the On button. ExpressVPN will provide you with the best location by default called Smart Location.

Once the message “Connected” is displayed, you can start surfing the Internet with security and freedom.
