It’s probably not obvious to most people how to take an Apple Watch screenshot. In fact, you may not even know that it’s possible. But it is! Just like any Apple device, you can take a screenshot of your Apple Watch if you know the right set of steps.

The steps are a little hidden, but once you know them, you’ll be able to get a screenshot of your Apple Watch and then do lots of things with that screenshot. Here’s what you need to know.

Turn On Apple Watch Screenshots

In order for your Apple Watch to capture screenshots, make sure to turn on this feature.

This article applies to Apple Watch models running watchOS 4 and 5.

  • On your iPhone, open the Watch app.
  • Tap General.
  • Tap the slider to enable screenshots (it’s towards the bottom of these settings).

How to Take an Apple Watch Screenshot

To capture a screenshot of whatever is on your Apple Watch screen, just follow these steps:

On your iPhone, open the Watch app.

Tap General.

Tap the slider to enable screenshots (it’s towards the bottom of these settings).

  • Get whatever you want the screenshot of on your Apple Watch. This could be a watch face, an app, a notification, or something else.
  • There are two buttons on the side of the Watch: the Digital Crown and the side button. Use your forefinger and middle finger to press both of them at the same time.
  • Make sure to press both buttons at the exact same time. If you press one and then the other, you won’t get the screenshot.
  • If your watch screen briefly flashes, you’ve successfully captured the screenshot.

Where to Find Your Apple Watch Screenshot

Your Apple Watch screenshot isn’t much good if you don’t know where to find it. And this may seem confusing: there’s no Photos app on the Apple Watch itself where the screenshot can be stored.

But there is a Photos app on the iPhone that your Apple Watch is paired to — and that’s where all of your Apple Watch screenshots are saved. To find those screenshots, follow these steps:

  • On the iPhone that your Apple Watch is paired to, tap the Photos app to open it.
  • Your screenshots are stored in both the Camera Roll and the Screenshots albums. You can tap either one, but since you’re looking for screenshots, scroll down to find the Screenshots album and tap it.
  • This album contains every screenshot taken on both your iPhone and Apple Watch. You’ll find the Apple Watch screenshot you just took at the bottom of the album.
  • Tap the screenshot to see a fullscreen view.
